Have you ever found yourself in the middle of a storm, emotionally, spiritually, or even physically, wondering where God is? I’ve been there. I grew up in church, was raised by my grandmother, and attended service every Sunday and Wednesday. God was always part of my life, but it wasn’t until I truly needed Him that I began to understand what a personal relationship with Him looked like.
My faith journey didn’t begin with a single moment, it unfolded through life’s hardest trials, quiet prayers, and small steps of obedience. In this post, I want to share how I moved from routine religion to a real relationship with God. Whether you’re just starting to seek Him or need encouragement to keep going, I hope my story reminds you that God meets us right where we are, and walks with us every step of the way.

When My Faith Got Real

Though I always believed in God, there came a season when my faith became personal. It wasn’t just tradition or upbringing, it was survival.
One of the hardest times in my life was during a deployment, when I had to leave my kids behind. I felt torn and overwhelmed with guilt, questioning if I was doing the right thing.
Those long, quiet nights were filled with tears and prayers. I didn’t have all the words, but I knew God was there. It was in those moments that I truly leaned on Him, not out of routine, but out of desperation, and that’s when I began to feel His peace and presence like never before. That’s when my relationship with God became real.
Daily Habits That Changed Everything
Listening to Joyce Meyer daily helped me form my own Bible study habits. I used to read the same Scriptures each night, but I wasn’t really digging into their meaning. Joyce taught me that you can read the same verse three times and receive a different message each time, depending on what you’re facing.
To start diving deeper into God’s word, I invested in the tools that helped me grow:
-
The Jeremiah Study Bible gave me powerful insight and historical background behind the scriptures.
-
Bible Tabs helped me navigate books of the Bible with ease during personal and group study.
-
Bible Note Journal helped me keep track of lessons, prayer requests, and key takeaways.
-
I also use the Joyce Meyer Daily Devotional app for quick encouragement and daily reflections when I’m on the go.

Over time, I grew more comfortable praying out loud and even teaching Bible study to my kids. I never imagined feeling confident enough to lead others in faith, but God stretched me. He used my quiet spirit to make an impact in my home first, and now, hopefully, in the lives of others.
There are a few Scriptures that have guided me through everything:
-
Psalm 23 – A constant reminder that God is my shepherd and I’m never alone
-
Psalm 91 – A chapter I read for protection and peace
-
Psalm 139 – To remember how deeply God knows and loves me
-
Psalm 51 – A psalm for forgiveness.
-
Philippians 4:13 – “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” – My life verse that keeps me going when I feel weak

Faith in Life..
Faith isn’t just for Sunday; it’s a lifeline I lean on daily in every part of my life. As a mom, I use prayer to help calm my children’s fears and teach them to trust God. As a Soldier, I turn to God for strength before meetings or when I feel overwhelmed. I remind myself of Moses, who didn’t feel qualified to lead, but God gave him the words. That same God walks with me today.
In business, I pray for clarity and peace when navigating new challenges. Whether I’m budgeting for my family or serving clients in my bookkeeping business, I try to invite God into every decision I make.

Growth Takes Time
If you’re reading this and wondering how to build your relationship with God, just know, it doesn’t happen overnight. Don’t rush it. God will meet you right where you are. The key is consistency. Create a quiet time routine, study the Bible, even with just one verse daily, and surround yourself with others who love God.
Some Bible stories I’ve heard my whole life didn’t come alive until I studied them with others. That’s the beauty of growing in faith: there’s always more to learn, and God is always present.
